Hertha Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund 2-5, Erling Haaland 4 Goals
Erling Haaland scored four goals as Borussia Dortmund won 5-2 at home to Hertha Berlin, in the eighth round match of the German League played at the Olympia Stadium in Berlin on Saturday morning.
The victory moved Dortmund back into second place with 18 points, while Hertha remained in 13th place with a collection of seven points, the German League’s official website notes.
Both teams threatened each other in the early stages of the match. Hertha pressed through Dodi Lukebakio who ran half a yard before unleashing a wide shot, while Dortmund responded with a marco reus pass that goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow could hold.
Hertha were even ahead in the 33rd minute. Matheus Cunha received Lukebakio’s pass, to then unleash a powerful shot that Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Buerki could not reach.
It was also the only goal conceded in the first half.
Dortmund equalised in the 47th minute. Slick partnerships Thomas Meunier, Reus and Emre Can sent the ball to Haaland to convert into a goal.
The young Norwegian striker scored his second goal of the season as Dortmund turned the game around in the 49th minute. He ran after a breakaway pass from Julian Brandt and fired a shot past goalkeeper Schwolow.
Peter Pekarik almost brought Hertha level when both teams played open play. But it was Halland who completed his trigol in the 62nd minute when he chased a pass behind Marvin Plattenhardt, and outwitted Schwolow.
Raphael Guerreiro put his name on the scoreboard in the 70th minute, when he took advantage of Meunier’s pull pass. Dortmund took a 4-1 lead.
Hertha narrowly missed out in the 79th minute when they were awarded a penalty for Manuel Akanji’s foul on Matteo Guendozi in the box. Matheus Cunha who became the executor succeeded in fulfilling his duties.
But Halland still had time to fulfill his chess goal a minute later. Substitute Jude Bellingham sent a pass that Halland converted into his fourth goal.
Halland was replaced by Youssoufa Moukoko five minutes before normal time ran out. That performance also made Moukoko the youngest player ever to be played in the German League, at the age of 16 years one day.
